Salt Chlorinators

Salt chlorinators are used as a form of pool sanitising equipment and are used in line with the pools pump and filtration system. Chlorine is formed by forcing an electrical charge through the saline water. Salt is added to the pool (between 3000ppm 0.3% & 5000ppm 0.5%). This is a low salt level and does not taste overly salty. The water will indeed feel softer than normal. The saline water passes by an electrode which transforms the salt into chlorine. The chlorinated water then returns to the pool. When the chlorine has reacted with contaminants in the water it transforms back into salt. This is why this type of system is so popular, especially in warmer climates, as there is a continuous cycle happening. The only way salt is lost from the pool is when water is physically removed (eg; backwashing filters). Evaporation will not dilute the salt level. Significant chlorine savings are made and you only need to add salt into the pool a few times a year. The chlorine production is adjustable and there are now units available which can sense and adjust the amount required.
